Before a renter takes your trailer, Patriot Hauls checks two things for you: that they carry current insurance, and that they are who they say they are. Both run automatically during the renter's checkout, and you always get the documents on the booking.
The two checks
- Insurance is read by a vision AI. The renter uploads their insurance card, declarations page, or a Certificate of Liability Insurance, and the AI confirms it's a genuine, current policy with liability coverage — and pulls out the insurer, policy number, named insured, and expiration date. - Driver's license / ID is verified by Stripe Identity — a live ID scan plus a matching selfie. When it passes, the renter's name, date of birth, license number, state, and expiration are captured and the document image is saved to the booking for you. See ID verification.
Insurance is re-asked; identity travels with the renter
These two checks behave differently on purpose:
- Insurance is always re-asked and re-run on every booking. Coverage lapses and policies change, so Patriot Hauls never assumes a renter's old insurance is still good.
- Identity travels with the renter. Once a renter has passed Stripe Identity, that verified ID is reused on their next booking — with you or any other operator — without making them scan again. It's only re-checked when the license genuinely expires before the rental ends.
Good to know: A renter who's verified with one operator arrives at yours already ID-verified. They still upload fresh insurance, but the ID step is instant.
What you see
On each booking you'll see the renter's verification status — Verified or Unverified for both their ID and their insurance — plus the details the AI read off the insurance document and the license info Stripe captured. You can review it all on the booking before you hand over the keys.
You're always covered by default
Every unit you list requires both a driver's license and insurance — that's on automatically. What you control is how strict the platform is when a document can't be verified. See require verification before booking to choose between a hard block and allowing your own manual override.
