Patriot Hauls verifies a renter's driver's license through Stripe Identity. At checkout the renter taps to verify, scans their license, and takes a selfie that Stripe matches to the license — a live capture, not just an uploaded photo. When it passes, you get a renter whose identity is genuinely confirmed.
What gets captured
A passing Stripe Identity check records the renter's name, date of birth, license number, issuing state, and expiration date, and saves the captured document image to the booking so you can see it. On the booking the ID shows as Verified · Verified live via Stripe Identity.
Good to know: Stripe handles the renter's raw ID photo and selfie securely. You see the verified result and the captured license image on the booking — you're never asked to judge a selfie yourself.
Identity is reused across operators
Once a renter passes Stripe Identity, that verified ID travels with them. On their next booking — with you or any other Patriot Hauls operator — the ID step is instant and isn't re-run. It's only re-verified when the license genuinely expires before the rental ends, in which case the renter is asked to verify again with a current license.
How you pay for it: verification credits
ID verification is billed to the Patriot Hauls platform account and metered to you with verification credits, much like AI chat credits.
- 1 credit = one renter fully verified (the Stripe ID check; the insurance read rides along free).
- A credit is charged only when the check succeeds. Abandoned, canceled, or failed checks never cost you a credit.
- Top up in Settings → Workflow under Verification credits — packs are 10 credits for $25 or 50 credits for $99. Your current balance shows there too.
If you run out of credits
If your balance hits zero, ID verification falls back to manual photo upload plus your review — the renter uploads a license photo as a backup and you confirm it yourself, until you top up. A plain photo is never shown as "verified"; only a passing Stripe Identity check marks an ID verified.
Heads up: On the mobile app, if the Stripe ID screen doesn't open in-app, the renter can finish it from patriothauls.com in their phone's browser — the verification still attaches to their booking.
A quick note on what's live today
The instant Stripe Identity check is the real, working path. If verification can't start for any reason — for example, the operator is out of credits — checkout degrades gracefully to the manual-upload backup rather than dead-ending. That fallback exists by design so a renter is never stuck.
